The very first date should probably be something quick if you met online. If you met in person, it is probably a different story, which also depends upon how much time you talk before asking the person out or if you were asked out. If you think you really had a connection in person already, then maybe a dinner date makes sense or a good activity based upon a shared interest.

I like a real dinner in a nice restaurant. I think it shows that the person is really interested in you. Is this too much to ask?
