They didn’t know what they were both looking for or what they would find out there. Could they achieve dating success?
Meet John
As John turned 33, he began having some life changes. He was diagnosed with a heart condition and had just ended a substantively long, yet toxic relationship with his fiancé. It was, at this time, that he was introduced to a trainer through a work colleague to try and turn his health around. They became fast friends, and started to hang out socially.
On one of the many evening samplings of the local band talent, John and his trainer friends ended up at a bar/restaurant called The Social to see the band’s singer that they knew through friends, perform with her newly formed group.
To be a thirty-something, white male in the north-east dating scene is a grim prospect. John found through online, friends-of-friends, and bar dating, that most women his age and younger who grew up in the U.S., have completely unreasonable expectations or are just plain intolerable.
Now, into his mid-thirties and starting over, he began to broaden his horizons as far as dating expectations went, looking for dating success.
Meet Rachel
Being a twice-divorced, mother-of-three, and fresh off of yet another bad relationship. Rachel was focusing on her work, and her children, rather than dating success and finding yet another man who would inevitably disappoint her. When her co-worker, a woman who moonlights as a lead singer in a band in the local bar scene invited her out to see them play at a local bar/restaurant called The Social.
Not looking for a man, for which she had every previous experience with as users, cheaters, or just plain disappointments, Rachel didn’t have any expectations for the evening.
Immediately upon entering she (a small, attractive, exotic, and voluptuous Asian immigrant), was accosted by men both young and old, buying her drinks to gain her favor and attention. She was just trying to bear the onslaught and watch her friend perform when she noticed an attractive, younger-looking man walk into the bar whom immediately caught her attention.
The Lasting Encounter
John being a regular of the bar scene and of his crowd where he hangs out, did not at first notice Rachel standing at the bar wall sipping on her many gifted drinks. He made his rounds, danced to a number with some acquaintances, and then decided to head towards the bar to get him and his companions a drink.
Then he noticed Rachel in her tight black dress!
John doesn’t traditionally approach women who are with other men in a social setting. However, this woman looked like she was in distress. He waited until her “suitors” turned away to attempt to peel her away from them and onto the dance floor. Rachel was having none of it.
She thought to herself, this man is too young for me, and I don’t need a fling right now, besides is he really trying to call me over to him?
It took a whole night of convincing, but eventually Rachel gave John her number.
…
It’s been seven years since that night, Rachel and John are now married, with their own child (Rachel’s 4th). The one thing that they hold on to the most from this experience, is that neither one of them is what the other expected, and what keeps them going is persistence and love.
What makes a relationship work, is work.
You have to put into it what you want to get out of it, and one person is always going to give more than the other, but what you get is never going to be what you expect.
John can’t think of a day going forward when he doesn’t have Rachel by his side, and Rachel wouldn’t have it any other way.
