My Valentine’s Day

I found myself single for the first time in a long time… and I was in need of a date for Valentine’s Day!

I had done the online dating thing before, but had trouble being successful at it. The men just wanted someone to hook up with it seemed.  So how does one go about finding a serious person?  How do I find someone who wants to be my valentine?

My Family as a Role Model

It was a sweet notion that my dad reached out on valentines and asked if he could be my valentine. I really love that man. He always knows when I need him to talk to me. He is more attuned than I thought a man could be.  He makes me want to have a love like my parents have.

He showed me what a life one could have and what I was expecting out of a future mate.  But, at this time, I would settle for a date for Valentine’s Day.

Friends from Work

Tony from my office was a sweet guy that was always friendly, and also like a father figure to me.  His wife Tina liked to stop by and check in with him whenever she had a chance.  I was fortunate to know her as well and she became part of an extended family for me.

Tina was one of those ladies that knew everybody or at least never met a stranger. If she didn’t know you, she would make it her life’s purpose to get to know you. She was a great contact and was always trying to set me up on blind dates.

I had met a few guys from the office and had a few first dates, but nothing earth shattering.  I didn’t see any great prospects here.

I told Tina that I was dateless for Valentine’s Day, so she set it as her life’s mission to fulfil my need for a date. She had tried on a number of occasions to set me up, but I had always refused. I didn’t much like the idea of meeting a man I had never met before or knew little about.

Friends had the Answer

I finally relented after repeated attempts from Tina to set me up. This time Tina wouldn’t take no for an answer. She said she had the absolution perfect guy for me to meet. I didn’t have much to go on other than that he was the perfect guy.  I think she was more excited about the date than I was.

She set me up with Thomas who is a son of one of their best friends. Thomas, like me was newly single after a series of short relationships with the wrong person after wrong person. He was really attractive and tall and I couldn’t wait to meet him in person.

The First Date

He was very tall, slightly older, but that little salt and pepper in his beard that made me a little hot.  I cannot lie.  He brought flowers with him on the date, for which he said that Tina insisted since Irises are my favorite.

In reality he had picked them himself, and asked Tina which ones I liked.

Tina had tried to prepare me for the date and tried to give me a list of topics to discuss. I refused and said that I wanted to be surprised and not artificially prepared.

We met on the Thursday the week before Valentine’s Day, so I had hopes that it would turn into a relationship, and I would actually have a date for the big day. We met at the restaurant for a drink and I was really happy.  He looked just like his pictures. He was charming.

He told me Tina and his mom had hounded him into meeting with me.

I said, I had hoped it was my picture that made him call me. He laughed and said, “oh yeah,” that was without a doubt the first thought he had, but didn’t have time to think for himself with Tina and his mother in his ear constantly about meeting me.

So we talked for a few hours while having drinks, and he asked me to move on to dinner and dancing. His mother and Tina insisted that he go all out.  We learned a lot about each other and what each of us were looking for.  I was so happy that we hit it off, and there was a natural fit to our conversation. I had thought that he was prepped for the conversation since he talked about some of my favorite things like cooking, intramural sports and movies.

I couldn’t help but ask if he had been prepped for the date, and he laughed. He told me his mom was relentless and the two of them insisted on telling him a few details, despite his objections.  I completely understood and decided to give him a pass.

We ended up having a great evening of dinner and dancing, and it was one of the best dates I had ever had.  Late that night, he walked me to my car, and gave me a hug before leaning in and giving me a long deep kiss. The one that I had wanted since I first laid eyes on him.

We made out there next to my car for a few minutes, before I removed myself and drove home.

Date #2- Valentine’s Day

Thomas called two days later, and said the ladies wouldn’t leave him alone until I called again. It was funny since they both were involved in calling me to ask me about the date.  I was happy that I had such a great friend that cared enough to find out everything.

Thomas said that he wanted to call right away, but wanted to ensure that it was his own idea and he was not being influenced by his overbearing mother and her busy body friend… he said it in a way that was charming, as was his nature. And I totally understood.

Thomas asked me out for Valentine’s Day!

I happily agreed and met him for a great night!  My parents had always taught me that luck happens when preparation meets opportunity. They prepared me for meeting the man of my dreams, and friends made the opportunity happen.

We have been dating for about a month now and we are very happy to have met each other, and even agree that the ladies made it happen for us in spite of our own objections.

It’s nice to have great friends and family, and for me a great Valentine’s Day and now a great relationship.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
