Guidance for blog writers to boost SEO (Search Engine Optimization):

  • Posts must be at least 600 words, the longer the better- up to 2000 words. Typical posts are around 1000-1600 words (Google wants longer in-depth stories). Some say 2100-2400 is optimal length.
  • Title = include main Keyword. Other keywords could be included as well with a separate list. Like self-improvement, dating, dating ideas, dating budget, etc.
  • Title should have positive or negative sentiment and containing a power A Power word is wording that smart copywriters use to trigger a psychological or emotional response.
    • They are so persuasive that people simply can’t resist being influenced by them!
    • Curiosity words like: incredible, key, limited, shocking, little known
    • Sloth words: accessible, basic, cheat sheet, cinch, complete, comprehensive, copy
    • Lust words: Captivating, compelling, dirty, engaging, forbidden, intriguing, Lonely
    • Vanity words: amazing, amplifying, attractive, beautiful, bold, elegant, elite
    • Trust words: according to, accredited, approved, authentic, authority, best
    • Anger words: abuse, agitate, annoy, B.S., backstab, broke, brutal, crooked
    • Fear Words: agony, annihilate, assault, backlash, beware, danger, dumb

  • Titles with numbers are preferred, e.g., Top 5 reasons why you can’t change your stipes
  • The Keyword should be present (repeated) near the beginning of post (within the first 10% of content), i.e., in the intro section before the first header.
  • Posts should follow some discernable outline with Headings (Heading 1 (H1) – Title), Heading 2 (H2) sub-headings, and possibly H3 sub-headings.
  • If possible, use the main key word in subheadings; also include it within the text, if it is a natural fit. Keyword density is measured by how many times the keyword appears in the text.
  • Proper spelling and punctuation helps
  • Use of internal links to previous posts or content or article on the site improve scores
  • Use of Do Follow links and external content to other sources, post or information (to reputable, higher authority on the subject), this improves the score
  • Use “quotes” when quoting someone within the text.
  • Paragraphs should be relatively short, usually like 3 sentences or less.
  • Bulleted lists within the article improves SEO score
  • Meta-Description – keep it short, use the keyword, make it compelling (this is the little description shown by Google in a search)
  • Add images or videos to the body of your post. Add alt text to images (describes what is in the photo)
